Circuit Information

Instructions and Fees

Please complete one entry form per horse-rider combination. The fees associated with each show are listed below.

  • Northwoods Hunter-Jumper Circuit Fee -
  • For horse/rider combination $30
  • For Equitation Rider  $20
  • For Rider on Multiple hunters $40
  • Annual fee for competitors wishing to accumulate points for year end awards. Must be paid prior to competing for points to count. Competitors not wishing to accumulate points for year end awards need not pay.
  • $5 Post Entry Fee per registration applies if registration is received after the closing date. Competitors may forgo preregistration and enter on the day of showing, in which case the $5 fee will be applied. A registration constitutes 1 horse-rider combination.
  • $10 Office fee - Only one office fee applies per registration.
  • Hunter Classes $10/Class or $25/Division
  • Equitation Classes $10/class
  • Medal Classes $20/Class  
  • Dressage $10.00/Test
  • Haul In Fee $15 per horse per day (Tied to trailer or portable stall)
  • Stall Fee Weekend rental is $80. $20 stall refund when left clean
  • Daily Rental is $50/night. $10 refund when left clean
  • Daily rate is 4pm to 4pm
  • Shavings Available at all shows for $7 per bag.
  • Camping Fee $15 per night rustic camping
  • Stabling Reservations MUST be made prior to the show date - preferably with pre-registration. Please specify the number of stalls needed, including tack and feed stalls if desired.
  • $25 charge for returned checks.

Class Rules

                                    Hunter Divisions                                    

Cross entry permitted within Northwoods Circuit hunter divisions only within next sequential height divisions.

Hunter is judged on correct execution of course with correct horse's form.

Lead Line: Open to any horse and rider. Rider may not cross enter into any other class.

Walk-Trot: Open to any horse and rider. Rider may not cross enter into any other division.

Cross Rail Hunter: Open to any horse/rider combination. The 2008 Year End Champion in this division will not be allowed to compete in this division or lower height division in 2009.

Long/Short Stirrup Hunter: Jump heights 1'6". Open to any horse/rider combination.

Barely Vertical Hunter: Jump heights 2'0". Open to any horse/rider combination.

Pony Hunter: Jump heights 2'0". Pony Height must be 14.2 HH (58") and under. Ponies may be measured on the show grounds.

Limit Hunter: Jump heights 2'3". The judge will call back the top competitors who will jog their horses into the ring for soundness check and horsemanship assessment.

Low Hunter: Jump heights 2'6". The judge will call back the top competitors who will jog their horses into the ring for soundness check and horsemanship assessment.

2'9 Working Hunter: Jump heights 2'9". The judge will call back the top competitors who will jog their horses into the ring for soundness check and horsemanship assessment.

3'0 Working Hunter: Jump heights 3'0". The judge will call back the top competitors who will jog their horses into the ring for soundness check and horsemanship assessment.

Equitation Divisions

A rider may enter 1 equitation division and corresponding medal class.

Judged on correct rider position. Except for refusals, jumping faults of the horse are not to be considered unless it is the result of the rider's ability.

Cross Rail: Open to any horse/rider combination. All jumps will be simple cross rails with simple course designs. The Year End Champion in this division will not be eligible for future year end awards in this division.

Long/Short Stirrup: Jump heights 1'6".

Children/Adult 2'0": Jump heights 2'0". Open to any horse/rider combination.

Children/Adult 2'3": Jump heights 2'3". Open to any horse/rider combination.

Children/Adult 2'6": Jump heights 2'6". Open to any horse/rider combination.

Children/Adult 2'9": Jump heights 2'9". Open to any horse/rider combination.

Children/Adult 3'0": Jump heights 3'0". Open to any horse/rider combination.

Miscellaneous Divisions/Classes

Lead Line: Open to any horse/rider combination. Rider may not cross enter into any other class.

Walk/Trot: Open to any horse/rider combination. Rider may not cross enter into any other division. Walk/Trot division combines equitation and hunter.

Medal Classes: Classes judged on equitation over a more difficult course, which will include at least 1 roll back turn and more difficult jumps. Jumps may include triple bars, liverpools, skinny fences and various types of oxers.  Exhibitors are asked to perform a test or asked horsemanship questions, which will be determined by the judge. A rider may only enter 1 medal class at the same height as chosen equitation division.

Rules and Regulations

  • 1-6 place ribbons in each class
  • Championship and Reserve in each division per horse show. To be eligible you must enter and compete in entire division. US Equestrian Federation rules apply if not specifically addressed in this program.
  • Proper show attire is required (Jacket if possible) shirt, breeches and boots. Exceptions made for lead line and walk trot classes.
  • Cross entry permitted within divisions only within next sequential height divisions EXCEPT no cross entry in equitation divisions and medal classes (1 equitation division and 1 corresponding medal class per rider).
  • All riders MUST wear protective headgear securely fastened at all times while mounted.
  • Arenas will be open for at least 1 hour prior to judging the jumping divisions. The Eagle River and Sunrise Farm shows will have additional schooling opportunities. Contact show organizers for details.
  • ALL schooling must be supervised by an adult (parent or trainer).
  • Show management reserves the right to cancel or combine classes with less than 3 entries.
  • Poor sportsmanship will not be permitted -- including abuse of horse and excessive obscene language as determined by show managers. Each individual must respect the spirit of good horsemanship.
  • The judge's decision is final.
  • Stallions must be handled by adults (18 and over).
  • All dogs MUST BE KEPT ON LEASHES and secured at all times!
  • Current negative Coggins required with entry for all horses.
  • Refunds-1 week prior to show with Veterinary Certificate.
  • $25 charge for returned checks.
  • In areas around the in-gates, only show management, trainers, and competitors waiting on deck or in the hole will be permitted. In gate areas must be kept clear of congestion to assure safety for horses, riders, trainers, show management and spectators.

Year End Awards

  • Prizes will be awarded for each division (except lead line, medal and dressage).
  • Competitor's Circuit fees must be paid prior to showing in order for the points to count toward year end.
  • Equitation points count for the rider only, regardless of the horse/rider combination.
  • Hunter points count for the horse/rider combination.
  • Year end awards will be presented at a banquet with location, date, and time yet to be determined (likely in March or April).
  • Northwoods Hunter-Jumper college scholarship will be presented at the banquet.
